Shayla had spent a fun day in St. Louis at a Cardinals game and was heading home to Rolla, Mo. Then, with three weeks to go before her due date, Shayla suddenly went into labor and was transferred to Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia for the hospital’s expert NICU care.

Brody struggled with breathing issues after being born, and Shayla had to stay in the hospital as well after developing pneumonia following her son’s birth.

“I didn’t have any family staying with me, and I was so scared and anxious by myself. Then a social worker told me about the Ronald McDonald House,” Shayla said. “Ronald McDonald House took care of some of my most basic needs when I had so many other things to worry about,” Shayla said.

With such little time to prepare for her son’s birth, Shayla felt completely overwhelmed as a single mom dealing with her son being immediately placed in the NICU.

“The community at Ronald McDonald House was amazing. I remember sitting there crying and the sweetest mom just came and sat with me for three hours. It truly felt like I had a family away from home,” Shayla said.

Without this House – without YOU – many parents would have nowhere else to turn. Thank you for helping provide not just a place to stay, but a place where worries are eased, and families are comforted.
